for Best Short Film (maximum 25 minutes)
The award for Best Short Film is presented in recognition of the Mpenzi: Black Women’s International Film and Video
Festival® Advisory Committee. The recipient of this
award is selected by the audience (by ballot) the night of the festival.
Jennifer
Hodge de Silva Award (long form 26-60 minutes)
The
Jennifer Hodge de Silva Award was established by the Mpenzi:
Black Women’s International Film and Video Festival® Advisory Committee to celebrate the career and life of seminal pioneer
African Canadian filmmaker Jennifer Hodge de Silva. The award is
selected by the Advisory Committee in advance of the festival. It
is presented to the filmmaker of the best long form film which has
achieved excellence in challenging contemporary notions of race,
gender and / or sexuality.
